What a surprise! We only made one stop in Delaware and it turned out to be way more than we expected. Rehoboth Bay is our kind of lifestyle.

The bay is about 13 square miles with towns and marinas scattered throughout it's shoreline. The average water depth is only about 6' so, depending on the tide, you can see groups of boats gathered any where in the bay. Anchor your boat, hop out, and let the socializing begin. We stayed in Long Neck, a small city with a population of less than 2,500 residents with a community feel. Well maintained places mostly on the water with a laid-back vibe. To me it felt like California coastline met Florida coastline. I can see why a lot of the residents are seasonal retirees.

I definitely recommend Sun Retreats Rehoboth Bay RV Resort. Great place! Honestly, we're always excited about our next stop but we would of had no problem staying a few more days. The main pool has a walk-in area (no steps). It's a great place for the whole family. There's a wall about half way across the pool with an opening that goes into the adult pool (21 and over) which has a swim-up bar for drinks, appetizers, and even lunch. Super cool. If you prefer the beach, just take the 3 minute walk through the RVs and small vacation rentals to the private beach. We spent a lot of time there with our chairs and umbrella. Paradise Cove Restaurant is at the beach with an indoor/outdoor bar. Great place to have lunch or dinner while watching all the water activity. Stay on a Friday or Saturday and you'll get live music. We loved our level site with full hook ups and literally 20 seconds from the beach. The resort is totally dog friendly and dogs are welcome anywhere except the pool area include reception, restaurants, beach, etc.

Our plan was to just relax and enjoy the resort but Melissa couldn't resist the urge to plan one day trip. Not gonna lie, my first thought was...Really? Beach, pool, bbq, repeat sounds just fine to me. BUT, I gotta give her credit. We had a great day. We took a water taxi, which was actually a private boat, for the 15 minute ride across the bay to Dewey Beach. We'd been told by several locals that we had to have an Orange Crush cocktail at The Starboard restaurant. So we had lunch at Rusty Rudder before heading to The Starboard for our Orange Crush (fresh squeezed orange juice, orange vodka, triple sec, and Sprite served over crushed ice). It's actually the official state cocktail of Delaware. It's true. I looked it up. 🤔 Well...too sweet for our liking so, after browsing through the town, we stopped at The Lighthouse for some plain ole tequila and soda before hopping on the same boat back to our resort. Very enjoyable outing.

Any day we're on a boat is a good day. Being on the water was invigorating and it made us wish we had rented a boat for a day or two to explore the entire bay. Next time.

There's probably more historical places we could have seen in Delaware but that wasn't our purpose on this stop. Some of you have asked if part of this adventure is to look for places to move to in retirement. The answer to that question is an unequivocable "No". We love where we live. But we loved Rehoboth Bay so, while we don't plan to retire there, we'll definitely visit again.

Next is a couple days in Virginia Beach before heading to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

Which brings me to a funny story that I'll end with. The night before a travel day, I always double check our route just to confirm mileage, etc. Last night I plug in the resort we're leaving from and the resort we're going to. This comes up:

Everything's fine expect for that part of the route that goes through water. I have an "oh, crap" moment because I don't have a ferry booked and I'm pretty sure that Betty doesn't float. How could this happen? I thought I had all our ferry rides booked. I think that maybe it's a mistake so I check a different navigation app. Nope. Same route through the water. I start checking for appropriate ferries but I can't find any ferries that even service that stretch of water. Little more research and I figure out that it's the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, a 17 mile series of bridges and tunnels. I'm guessing that they built the tunnels to allow boats to pass through without having to raise the bridge. It was my favorite part of the drive. Beautiful views on the bridge. Kind of cool to think that boats were going over us while we were in the tunnels.

Make it a great week!
