I didn't know what to expect from Long Island, NY but it's a cool place. Loved our site at North Fork Cottages and RV Resort. It's the first place we've stayed that was all turf. Very clean and made for a very easy set up and take down. The park is currently going through a major overhaul and it's obvious that ownership is putting a lot of money into the park. Nice pool area and office/store. They expect to get their liquor license soon and there are plans for a tiki bar. Staff was super friendly. Within the next two years the entire park will be done so I recommend staying here if you're in the area.
Melissa got her nails done the morning of our first day and then we took a drive to the Hamptons for lunch before visiting Sag Harbor for the afternoon. Both areas are really nice with some incredible homes on large properties. Their town centers are quite charming with high-end shops but, if I'm being honest, too much attitude for me. Made for some interesting people watching for sure and I chuckled more than once.

When we got home that day, Melissa found a gem of a restaurant, Eddie's Oyster Bar in Greenport. Weather was perfect and it was only a 10 minute bike ride from our resort. We're not big oyster fans but the menu has lots of fresh, healthy options that are great for sharing. The atmosphere is the best part with a great outdoor bar and tables on the sand overlooking Pikes Cove. Splendid evening with a full moon rising when we got back. Life is good!

Thursday our visitors arrived. My nephew, Tyler, and his wife, Melody, live in New York City and drove out to spend a few days with us. They rented one of the cottages at the resort and it was top notch. Melissa was jealous because they had a nice bathroom with a walk-in shower and a Roman bathtub. Greenport, Long Island is wine country so we went wine tasting and then bbq'd delicious steaks for dinner. Melissa made a phenomenal summer salad so I'll share the recipe. Sat around the fire until after 1:00am catching up!

Friday was our favorite day. We dropped the dogs at daycare and took Lou on the five minute ferry ride to Shelter Island, which is a smaller island off Long Island. It's nature beauty is stunning so we did a nature walk before having lunch at the waterfront restaurant at the Sunset Beach Hotel. What a beautiful setting! Reminded us of the Amalfi Coast of Italy. And talk about the "see and be seen scene", this place is it! Folks wanted you to know that they we're something special. 😒 Once, again, great people watching. On our way back to the ferry, we came across the Shelter Island Yacht Club. Wow! What a great find. Beautiful club on the water. Great drinks. Upscale but laid back. Terrific staff. My kind of place! We took the ferry ride back but still had time to hit another winery before picking up the dogs. Even got a little pool time before dinner. Fantastic day with Tyler & Melody!! Thanks again for visiting.
Now we have new visitors. We picked up Melissa's son, Kenyon, and his girlfriend, Natalie, on our way to Cape May, NJ. They're joining us from California for four days. Long drive with LOTS of traffic through New York but we arrived late Saturday afternoon at Sun Retreats Avalon. This place is by far the liveliest place we've stayed. Had a country band that played last night and we were all surprised how good they were. Should be a great stay so details to follow.
