We did a one night stay in Canastota, NY. Getting there was an easy drive until it wasn't. Serious rain, wind, thunder and lightning. Check out the video. Drove though it for about 25 minutes and eventually cleared up. All good.

We continue to love finding places like Canastota. It's a small town with a population of about 5,000 that sits on the shores of Oneida Lake, which is the largest lake (80 square miles) entirely within New York state. Harvest Hosts continue to impress us. Stan's the owner of South Shore Wines and was a our host for the night. 20 acre property with a pond. There's a wine store, marine store, and an ice cream shop. For $53 we got a place to park Betty, room to roam off leash for the girls, three bottles of wine and an ice cream cone. Bargain!

Stan recommended that we take the 5 minute drive to Sylvan Beach which we did after dinner. Nice evening walking the dogs along the shore.

In the morning we took the girls for a walk around the pond. If you look closely at the video of the pond, you can see a mama deer and her fawn on the other side of the pond. The next three videos are Stella hot on the scent but no success.

Getting to Lake George was also an easy drive until it wasn't. Google maps took us through Ballston Spa which is a weird name for a town but I'll spare you the history. It's a historic old town with some beautiful homes that I'm sure were built in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Downtown looked like a great place to spend an afternoon but we were just passing through. Then we ran into a few problems. First, we came across a bridge that was too low for Betty. Made a quick turn before the bridge and found a route that would take us around it. All good until we got to the road that had a 4 ton weight limit. Betty weighs about 11 tons so that wasn't gonna work. We stopped for a few minutes and Co-pilot Melissa found a route that got us through town. Little extra time and patience but the rest of the drive was easy money.

Lake George Escape Campground is the largest campground that we've stayed at. Almost 600 sites! Lots of amenities including a large pool area, restaurant on-site, shuffle board, horse shoes, cornhole, and cocktails delivered to your site. We had a great site close to everything but we both agreed that the campground was too large for our liking.

Rained so much one day that our outside mat was floating. You'll see the videos. But it cleared up in the afternoon so the girls didn't miss any outside time. Poured again the next day on my way to pick up Melissa at the Albany airport after her short trip home. Once again, it cleared up in the afternoon so we did pool time and went tubing on the Schroon River which runs along the campground. A must while we were there. Cool way to spend the afternoon after all the rain.

The Andirondack Mountains are filled with very dense forests. All green and beautiful! Lots of history around Lake George. Many battles in the 1700s and 1800s but also followed by lots of wealth to this day. Think Vanderbilts, etc. Stunning mansions along the lake shore. Worth the visit if you're in Upstate New York.

Today was the first time we were in three states in one day. Breakfast in New York. Then a scenic drive through Vermont before arriving in New Hampshire for a three day stay. We're settled into a great site on the river and we're ready to start exploring tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Enjoy your week.

You two are living the dream, and I’m lmao. I loved this post!

. Tell Mom you’re fine (ish), and keep us posted on whether you get that beer or if Dad pulls a fast one with a juice box. 😏 Oh, and that piña colada zinger? Gold. 🥥 You’re a star, Rita.

Hey - it's Rita. I'm soooo excited to get my first comment. Ok...this is kind of embarrassing but I'm not very good at this website stuff and, personally, I think dad's still figuring it out as well. The comment came in from "Guest" so I don't know who it's from. If you could just share at least a first name, I can give you a personal thank you.

As for the beer - well, dad's lame and said we didn't have any beers in the frig. I so don't believe him BUT dad's actually pretty cool. He made drinks especially for me so we called them Margaritas (that's my full name). Yummmmy! We even put salt on them. He…
