We spent 11 nights in Key West so it's been awhile since I posted about somewhere we stayed.

Let's start this post with a one question quiz. How many keys are in the Florida Keys? Take a guess and I'll give you the answer at the end of this post. No cheating by Googling it.

Now let's talk about Key West. Boyd's Campground is actually on Stock Island but it's the closest RV Resort to Key West. We'd heard good things about Boyd's and it lived up to expectations. No hot tub or fitness center but everything else. Terrific staff. Tropical setting and very well kept. Sites are tight but very level with full hook ups. Awesome views of the bay and the pool was heated to 85 degrees. Short walk to a few dog friendly restaurants including the very popular Hog Fish Bar & Grill. About five miles to Duval Street in Key West. Easy bike ride or Uber and we did both a couple of times.

There are roosters throughout Key West and Boyd's had 'em throughout the park. Not tons. Just enough to add a uniqueness to the resort. They'd meander through our site and the dogs even got used to them for the most part. I'd never seen green bomber worms but they're like fire flies in the water and they showed up one night while we were sitting outside. They illuminate green bursts to distract potential predators. There's pictures and video in the "Pictures" section. . Pretty wild and cool!

Key West has a quintessential Florida coastal vibe with plenty of history and nice beaches. It's home to a US Naval Base which made for some great airshows while sitting at our RV site. It also has a vibrant bar scene and we visited a lot of them including Green Parrot, Sloppy Joe's, Captain Tony's, Irish Kevin's and of course Hog's Breath which has the best motto ever: "Hog's breath is better than no breath". Sunset Pier attracts locals and tourists every evening for spectacular sunsets, street performers, and live music. We loved Reggae Lou and The Kind Budz!

Sometimes timing just works out and we were stoked that it worked out in Key West. If you've been following along, you may remember that we visited our friends, Brett & Sharon, in Lake of the Ozarks. Well...they were celebrating Brett's birthday in Key West while we were there and they hosted a birthday gathering for a group of friends. Worked out perfect and we got to enjoy an evening with them and other friends from home. Happy birthday, Brett!

Talk about timing! It also turned out that the World Championships Offshore Boat races were in Key West while we were there. We visited the race village and then found a waterfront table on the patio of the Hyatt Hotel with a great view of the races, where we enjoyed lunch and delicious cocktails. Great day!

Now we'll spend four days in Fiesta Key before continuing to Fort Lauderdale.

I'll finish up by saying I didn't realize how many "keys" are in the Florida Keys. The answer is over 1,700! About 800 of them are actually named and only about 143 are inhabited. Who knew!

I appreciate you taking the time to read my posts and riding along on our adventure. Lots of great Key West pictures and videos in the "Pictures" section.
