Tough One To Write

This blog is nothing more than a way to capture our adventure and share it with friends and family. So I've tried to keep it fun without getting too deep or personal. But I've also tried to keep it real, so today I hope writing helps me in a healing process. I'll keep it short.
We left Port St Joe a few days early so I could get to an airport and fly home. My mom passed away on Monday and the world lost an amazing woman! I know those of you who knew her would agree. She was truly one of the kindest, most caring people you could ever meet. She was always positive and encouraging. Fiercely loyal to her family and friends. Spunky. She never discouraged anyone from doing anything. We laughed a lot, and I promise you that if you met her, you'd never forget her. Two weeks after Melissa and I started dating, we had lunch with my parents and told them that we knew we'd found our soulmates. That part was true, but we also lied and told them that we were totally sure, so we created our celebrity name by combining Melissa and Kevin to create Melvin. Then we got "Melvin" tattood across each of our backs. My mom got a big smile and her reply was something like, "Well that sounds lovely!". 🤔 That's who she was. Very accepting with no judgement.

Mom gave the world 85 wonderful years and she'll be dearly missed. ❤️ Personally, I'll choose to remember all the years I had with her, not the day I lost her.

If you knew my mom, you knew my dad. Because they were ALWAYS together. 64 years of marriage and they still held hands! I grew up with a lot of love in our house and that hasn't changed, so my dad will have strong arms around him as he mourns and moves forward. We all will. Melissa stayed in Florida with the dogs while I spent some time at home, but I flew back today so now we continue our adventure together. We'll fly home together for my mom's celebration of life in a month or so.
I think writing can be therapeutic so thanks for hearing me out. I could write about her for hours but I said that I'd keep it short.
My mom loved Long Island Ice Teas, so have one for her the next time you need to smile. But.....tonight I'm drinking Jack! (See how I did that?) 😁 Check out my "Just a Little Fun" post from last week if that makes no sense to you. I certainly didn't realize how appropriate it would be just a few days later.
Rest in peace Mom! ❤️

Kevin,
So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing. It is a blessing to have had such an amazing woman as your mother. A good tree bears good fruit. Now I know where you got your best qualities from.
Best Regards and safe travels,
Paul and Cynthia
Losing a parent is so hard, hugs and condolences to you and your family.
Oh Kevin, I’m so sorry to hear this sad news. I didn’t know your mom, but she sounds like an amazing woman, and she clearly passed on all those wonderful qualities you describe to her son. Sending condolences and hugs.
I only met your mom once…at your wedding. - and she was so kind and loving. You could feel exactly how you expressed her to be in just that one moment. May she rest in peace.
