Here's a fact I didn't know when we started exploring: St. Augustine is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the US. Which technically makes it the oldest city in America. It's true. Look it up. It's also home to the Fountain of Youth. I'll save you the history lesson and let you look that up as well.
The city sits on the Northeast coast of Florida and downtown has a very cool European/Spanish feel to it. Very walkable with lots of history, restaurants, shops, etc. We were lucky that the Nights of Lights was still in full effect while we were there. It's the city's way of celebrating the holiday season and you have check out more of the pictures in the "Pictures" section. Spectacular!!

Our travels have allowed us to meet up with multiple friends in different cities and St. Augustine provided the opportunity to get together with Joe, one of my best friends from high school, and his girlfriend, Heather. He was also my very first roommate. Hadn't seen him in almost 40 years but he lives in Jacksonville which is less than an hour from St. Augustine. We had a great night at dinner with lots of time to reminisce!

Speaking of Jacksonville, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go to the Jaguars playoff game against the Bills. Quite a different atmosphere than when I went to the Titans regular season game. 😁 Not an empty seat in the stadium! I made a day of it while Melissa explored St. Augustine with Stella and Rita.

Ocean Grove RV Resort was perfect. Plenty of grass for the girls. Nice pool area and hot tub that we used several times. Most surprising was the food at the on-site restaurant and bar. We had lunch one day that rivaled food that we normally find at an upscale hotel. You be the judge. Here's a picture of the seafood tacos with brussel sprouts, tri-tip nachos, and fried green tomatoes.

We spent most of November making stops along Hwy A1A on the Eastern coast of Florida. We love that highway because it runs from Key West all the way to Jacksonville. So much coastal fun!! Lots of Kenny Chesney cranked up in the RV. So we looked forward to getting back here after our visit home. But St. Augustine was our last stop on A1A and also our last stop on the East coast. Now it's time to start exploring the Southern part of the US as we head back West. We spent one night in Tallahassee and we'll head to Port St. Joe, FL today. It's a coastal town on the gulf coast that I'd never even heard of until Melissa found it while doing some research. Looks beachy and laid back so it can't be all that bad. I'll let you know.
Thanks for being back on the road with us. Enjoy the rest of the week!
